Puppies’ Arrival

One thing you can say for sure is that you cannot count on any whelping calculator or app to tell you absolutely when puppies will arrive. The thing you can count on is that you will lose a lot of sleep and spend hours watching for the earliest signs of labor. True to form, this litter arrived a couple of days earlier than predicted, and after a long night of waiting.

And then there is the settling in, which can take anywhere from a couple of hours to a day or so. From learning what the different puppy sounds mean, to how protective your dam may be, to managing the temperature in your puppy room, a litter of puppies will take over your life for the first 3 weeks of their lives. And then, as they begin to grow more rapidly and eat solid food, the real fun (and work) begin.
